About Me

Hi!   I’m Palak.  I’m a self-taught sewer!  Well, maybe more like “internet-taught.”

However, apparently sewing is in my blood.  My grandmother was a sewing teacher who taught women in the villages of Gujurat, India.   She was so well known for all that she did for the underprivileged that when she passed away, they named an entire unit of a hospital after her.   She passed that gene on to my mother who began sewing at an extremely young age (5ish?) and it has always been a passion of hers.   Of course I always knew my mom sewed and I would go to her every time I needed anything fixed, but it wasn’t until a few months after I began sewing (just about when I started this blog and showed it to her) that I found out that when she was younger she would make a lot of similar things to what I’ve been making.  She would make fun things for her friends and family just as I do.

Beyond crafting, I am a registered nurse by night. I received my first Bachelor’s degree in photography from the University of Delaware in 2004 and worked in advertising, publishing, and graphic design for 5 years, living in both New York City and Philadelphia.  I then decided to switch careers and follow another passion of mine. Since my father is a physician, I have always been interested in pathology and it was always more of a hobby (thanks, Google), but I instead decided to turn my creativity into a hobby and the interest in medicine into a career.   I first realized this might be where I wanted to go with my life after volunteering in Thailand in 2007 and realizing that I had wished I had been there helping people medically instead of teaching English (of course I still loved every minute of being there and teaching!)  I then made the decision after becoming certified as an EMT where I realized that this was definitely where I am suppose to be.   So I made the leap and went back to school, completing an accelerated BSN from Drexel.  I am now back in school in a Nurse Practitioner master’s program.

Thanks so much for stopping by and checking out my website!!

  2. Yes ma’am. There is not much that I haven’t thought of- lol. (I literally lose sleep over design ideas!) I have been trying to come up with a unique design for a macbook though… not just a generic laptop case, but something that has more to it. You will see it eventually! :)

  3. What a beautiful story! That is so interesting that you made similar things that your mom did when she was young.
